SOLUTION

Solution: Lessons
Learn to Read

STEP 0: PRE TEST

In order to test the ability of students, a pre-test is made. During the test, the teacher found that students failed to understand the hidden meaning of the cartoon and make the wrong interpretations. Some students even own a messy structure, which was unreadable.

STEP 1: PRE-LESSON TASKS

Students are expected to spend around 30 minutes to watch the learning materials, including videos, notes and cue cards. Therefore, they can grasp a brief idea of the lesson, getting well prepared.

STEP 2: TEACHING AND LEARNING

In the lesson, the teacher will make a simple matching and mini-quiz, to check the revision progress of students.

Moreover, students and the teacher will further discuss some debatable topics as students have already grasped the brief historical concept.

Students may also ask questions and reflect on their opinion if they encounter any problem in self-studying. The teacher will then focus on particular topics, facilitating students solving hurdles in their learning journey.

STEP 3: ASSESSMENT

After each lesson, students are required to finish a self-reflective sheet in order to self ruminate their own learning progress. The teacher will ask students to list out their weaknesses and suggest ways of improvement to them, keeping track of their learning performance.

Apart from the formative assessment, students also have to finish DBQ homework and tests. Thus, they can stay tuned to the exam mode in the HKDSE exam, getting well prepared.

Besides, students are required to finish the group project with peers. By drawing posters and making presentations, they can learn the essence of group collaboration and historical inquiry. The traditional way of learning history has altered: not only teachers delivering messages, but also students become active learners, sharing their unique ideas with others. Henceforth, the atmosphere of exchange of ideas is formed, fostering an encouraging learning environment for students learning history.

STEP 4: SELF STUDY

There are an array of resources in the app. Students can do self-study at their convenience. They do not need to spend a lot of time studying history. The app aims at cultivating a practice of 5 minutes of learning in a daily routine. By day and day, students can learn better and further, excelling themselves in the historical acquisition.

STEP 5: POST TEST

After the implementation of the innovative history teaching, students are able to do active learning at their convenience by using the app. Their historical acquisition and exam skills have profoundly improved.

In the post-test, students are able to read the hidden meaning of the cartoon and further elaborate it by their own words.
